true love

I feel like all I ever blog about anymore is about my classes, but this semester my classes are above and beyond anything I ever could have imagined. I’m learning about concepts that consistently blow my mind, make me think, and make me wonder.

One of my classes in particular has me leaving every class in this bubble of amazement at the world and everything it entails. The other day, our homework assignment was to watch the movie Her by Spike Jonze. At first I was like, “oh yes, an easy homework assignment and an excuse to escape to my room to watch a movie.” But after our class discussion regarding the film, I understood the importance of watching this movie.

In class, we zero-ed in on the idea of true love. The idea of falling in love with your operating system seems out of reach and like an extreme idea. However, when we started talking more about it, I realized how close we are to this idea. Think about Siri for example. Do you say “please” to her subconsciously? Do you love the idea that she can give your directions without rolling her eyes? Weird, right?

My TA commented on my assignment with this statement regarding true love and it gave me “all the feels” as the kids are saying these days.

“Love is such an intense and individual emotion and I don't know how we can rightly say that what someone else is experiencing is not "real". That said, I believe for love to be fully actualized, to reach its highest aspirations, if you will, then it must be a shared experience.
We can't burn our fires long for no warmth, for no light. At least we shouldn’t.”

Poetic, right?

When thinking about accessorizing, the first thing that comes to mind are necklaces, earrings, rings. You know, the typical jewelry kinda thing. But, there’s more to accessorizing than with jewelry alone.

Think about it. Everything you have around you is an accessory. Your phone case, your glasses, and even your water bottle. When Bobble reached out to me to tell me about their company I was so excited to share their awesome water bottles with you guys!

Not only are Bobble bottles super fun and unique, but on their website you can create your own custom bottle. Talk about perfect. Be sure to check out their End The Trend Campaign .

what is happiness?

Chloe Gordon1 Comment

In my Writing and Rhetoric class this past week we watched the movie Into The Wild, and I have to say, I loved this movie so much.

At first I wasn’t so into it. It moved kind of slowly, but after I finished watched it I started to think about the themes and the message and the beauty of the cinematography (I’m a nerd and proud), and I realized how great of a film it is.

If you haven’t seen it yet, I totally recommend watching it. It’s a tear jerker for sure, but it’s just a classic movie. I think the greatest thing I took away from it was the quote “happiness is only real when shared.”

I started thinking about this quote and how close to home it hit. I, like any normal human, need space. I need time alone. Time to think. Time to reflect. Time to understand. But my happiest moments in life aren’t those that have been spent alone. My happiest memories and moments have been the times that I’ve spent with my friends and family.

Life is this huge complex world. It’s hard to understand and even harder to process, but with people it becomes easier. It becomes simpler. Happiness is found through laughter and shared experiences and a mutual feeling. All of these attributes are found when you’re with people. When you’re surrounded by people who care and who you care about.

Sure running away to pure nature sounds liberating, freeing, and even romantic, but it isn’t a lifestyle that can be sustained. Life is great through happiness and happiness is only real when shared.
