Cute shorts are a must for spring and summer, and if we are lucky early fall. But finding cute shorts can be a hassle. What styles are "in"? Do I want a print, solid, dressy or casual? So many options leave our heads spinning and our hands reaching for our trusty jean shorts. But switching up a summer look is important and we've found some great options that are tempting us to give it a go. So we turned to Lisa from In Dramatic Fashion, popcosmo’s Fashion Contributor with the latest style tips and trends from NYC for updates on cute shorts for summer: This may come as a shock, but up until last summer I had been on a multiyear shorts hiatus. The summer staple can be incredibly tricky to shop for, and hadn’t been seen "in-fashion” for several years. I hated how they bunched, cut off my legs, and generally felt frumpy. Instead I opted for skirts and cuffed jeans (not great in humidity!) Thankfully, with their resurgence last year, you can now find plenty of comfortable, stylish, and versatile short options.
When it comes to shorts, comfort really is key for pulling them off with confidence. Ignore the tag and try buying short styles a size or two bigger than pants. I like them to hang on the hips, and have plenty of room around the leg (i.e. no digging in!)
Denim shorts have been a summer staple forever! Now with funky ikat, checks, and colored options they can even be dressed up for dinner or a date. But remember, shorts are about showing off your legs, not your derriere. Be sure to bend, squat, and sit to make sure everything stays covered. If you don’t love showing off your thighs, try tapered Bermuda shorts, or a tailored pair of mid thigh shorts. Each cut really highlights different parts of your body so try out different styles to find your ideal summer look. And don't be afraid to DIY (see the end of the article for lots of ideas) if you can't find your perfect pair. Happy summer!
This pair from American Eagle, $29.99 is a bold pair to show off your legs. We love the Ikat print that comes in multiple color options.
J. Crew, $59.50, has some cute wide-leg shorts this season that are flattering on most body types and are comfortable for all!
We like this pair from Forever 21, $17.80 to dress up for going out. The high waist helps camouflage a belly and the wider leg is comfortable and chic.
This embellished pair from Free People, $128, has a pattern to draw attention to the booty and the length is short, but not too short.
