Shhh, my husband thinks it's him, but my first love (besides fashion) was Tex. Yep, Tex. He was rugged, handsome, from Texas, and was most definitely a free spirit. Tex was in my life for a few years, and although we had our highest of highs and lowest of lows, he left me absolutely broken-hearted. I haven't loved another horse since him. As anyone who's had a horse as a teen, or perhaps as an adult, you know what I mean when I talk about my horse as my first love. I had an entire scrapbook dedicated to him, my life revolved around him, and I was most definitely obsessed. I do believe he was too, but I think the adage the way to a man's heart is through his stomach probably applied to Tex. Luckily, my relationships with men were a lot healthier {for the most part :)) but I miss riding so much that it feels like a part of my heart is still missing. So when Erin, our "in the know" photographer, mentioned a lot of her engagement shoots take place at Blackacre, a horse farm, Chloe and I knew we had to check it out. All I needed was a Mint Julep Bourbon Slush in my hands to make it a complete Derby weekend.
When one of the horses that was tied up got loose, I kept him company while Erin shot a few impromptu photos and Chloe found the owner. All in a hard day's work. There is joy on my face, comfort in my soul, and my heart always heals a little around horses.
