The Home Depot Flower Tower

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Home Depot, but all opinions are my own.

As I mentioned in my last post in The Home Depot series in which I introduced you to all the benefits of the The Home Depot Garden Club, I was most excited about starting the Flower Tower project. I couldn’t resist the simple and colorful take on vertical gardening and my gardening needs right now are both color and height… both of which will draw emphasis away from the pitiful state of my lawn. Plus, I love a good project that doesn’t take too long to complete (i.e., less than a day), isn’t too complicated (I watch a video once only and only skim written instructions), but still packs a punch with high impact that I can sit back and admire when done. When someone asks about the amazing Flower Tower that has prime real estate in my yard, I can casually say, “Oh that, why yes, I did it in an afternoon!”

To begin, Chloe and I jotted off this morning to The Home Depot with our list in hand… and gathered what we needed. (Check our next post for lots more about the supplies.)

Flower Tower #digin

We were surprised how simple this project was. Although it took us an afternoon, and we had a big “OOOPs” moment in the video, we had fun. Seriously, lots of fun. Chloe and I hadn’t gardened together since… well, since she was in my gardening class at Seaside Neighborhood School! It’s been years! And although she was filming and could have stayed behind the camera, she walked over and jumped in to help. Which goes to show that the Flower Tower project is perfect for all ages and they’ll be ready to #digin. There are no special skills required, but there are some sharp instruments, so assistance is definitely needed for young kids.

Although our finished Flower Tower is not as lush and full as the one you saw here, it will be. Petunias will spread out and cover the tower and will look fabulous in a few weeks. I admit a got a bit impatient trying to beat the rain and finish placing the flowers, so placing the flowers in the holes was the most trying part of the Flower Tower project for me, and I could probably have made them look a bit better. But, the Flower Tower still turned out beautifully. Plus, pansies will bloom for a months on end, as long as I pick the spent flowers. A few hours of creation + quality family time + months of enjoyment = win, win, win.

I know, cool right? Vertical gardening and interest in a pot. And lord knows, my patio needed it. Now for the porch….

Always wanted to visit Charlotte! We’ll just gather a group at Home Depot and make them there :) Sounds like a garden party plan to me!
But wait… YOU can do this, it’s so simple even I can do this!

  • Julie the Wife

This is awesome! And as always, you look fab.

  • Julie Moore

What a cool idea! It does look simple enough, and you’re right - it will look amazing once the petunias get more full, and they will (I worked at a green house/florist shop). I bet it is something I could do with my kiddos (my boys are 10 1/2 and nearly 9) with ease, too, possibly even my 2 1/2 year old daughter could do it (with help, of course). Very cool.
Thanks for stopping by Natural and Free earlier and leaving a comment, too. I appreciate it. :)

We just bought annuals at Home Depot this weekend. Nothing like brightening up your space with flowers. :) Great job!

  • http://www.popcosmo.com/ PopCosmo

If your weather was like ours, then this was the perfect weekend to head to Home Depot to stock up on annuals and start spring planting! Happy planting!!

You are a woman of many talents - cook and gardener! I bet your kids would love this project and your daughter would have fun picking out flowers and placing them in the tower. Your boys could definitely help with the whole project! Sounds like a family plan :)

Awww, shucks! It is awesome, isn’t it? Thanks so much for dropping by and I want to see pics of when you and your daughter do it!

So glad we were able to show you how to do it - it’s so easy and makes such a great impact!!

Well, I am not as talented in the gardening department as you might think! LOL :) I have trouble overtending to plants, so I tend to like the maintenance free ones or the ones that you can’t overtend for the most part so that I don’t kill them with too much love! LOL :) I do have plans for some yard changes, though, so I will keep a lot of things in mind for sure! Thanks! :)
