Winter Outfit

FASHIONKim & Chloe3 Comments

There is currently a blizzard happening outside my window, and I’m feeling very lucky to be snuggled up on my bed watching old movies on Netflix. In fact, I don’t think I’ve been more content this year. Sometimes it’s nice to just take a break from the outside world and shut everything and everyone out. I’m not saying that I don’t love to hangout with my friends on the weekends, because I totally do, it’s just that sometimes, my bed and my computer are the only company that I need. Anyways, I decided to share a casual little winter outfit of the day. I find myself wearing this outfit, or versions of this outfit, very often because it’s so cozy, cute, and easy. I was on the hunt for a winter floppy hat for the longest time. I’m talking months and months of searching, and I finally found it at Urban Outfitters of all places. I think it’s such a nice addition to any outfit and it makes me feel like I could easily be Mary Kate and Ashley’s triplet, minus the brown hair thing of course.

TOMS

FASHIONKim & ChloeComment

This might come as a surprise, but I’m super frugal. However, I absolutely love to spend money. It’s just that I love spending money on things that I know I'll love. Frugal, picky, stubborn. Call it what you want, but I have money in my bank account and cute clothes, so I’m winning in my book. toms A few days ago, my mom and I (side note, my mom is my all time favorite shopping partner in case you were curious) were browsing the shoe section in Nordstrom's. We first glanced at all the fancy designer shoes and then made our way over to the other shoes. The shoes that I can actually afford. As I was looking, I noticed a pair of absolutely adorable high top sneakers. I don’t know what it is about high top kicks, but I’ve been absolutely diggin’ them lately. Upon further inspection, I realized that they were Toms. Who knew that TOMS started making different styles? ‘Cause I sure didn’t. I absolutely loved TOMS when I was in middle school, and I love the fact that they give one when you get one. It’s such a cool concept and I feel like my money is going somewhere important and actually helping people. I was dead set on buying them, but when I asked to try them on they didn’t have my size. I was bummed out, but figured it was just a sign that I didn’t need them.

Well, I was completely wrong. It's a few days later, and I’m still thinking about them. Actually, I’m dreaming about them. This pair of shoes actually showed up in my dreams. I need them. I want them. I have to have them in my life. They are too perfect and too cool. I’m pretty sure I’m going to buy them today, so fingers super-crossed that I go through with it.

Look Hot, Get Sweaty

I don’t know about you, but in order for me to have a successful workout, I have to look good. I’m not talking about putting on pounds of makeup before I run, I’m talking about wearing cute workout clothes. What I wear when I go to the gym or park for a workout can totally make or break my day. Lately I’ve been eyeing a few new goodies so I decided to share them with you all! My new workout motto is look got, get sweaty. Here’s a little inspiration board to inspire you to look hot while gettin’ sweaty.

Holiday Dresses

FASHIONKim & Chloe2 Comments
holidaydresses.jpg

It’s hard to believe that another holiday season is amongst us. It seriously feels like I was just shoveling the snow off my sidewalk last week and like the red cups at Starbucks were just here. It’s so strange how days go by so slowly but when you stop and think about which month it actually is your mind gets uber confused and freaked out. I’m not the only one that thinks this, am I? Any way, since the holiday season is here it means that holiday parties are about to be taking over our planners and our social lives. I have zero complaints considering nothing makes me happier than the festiveness of the season and dressing fancier than usual. I decided to compile a list of my favorite holiday dresses for this season. I hope you find a favorite from this list and if not then just enjoy the visuals… I tried to make them somewhat entertaining.

Friday, Finally

FASHIONKim & Chloe6 Comments

Fridays have to be my favorite day of the week. The school day goes by so quickly and then it’s finally the weekend, aka the best two days of the week. Today after school I’m going vintage shopping with a few friends so we can find our Halloween costume for an event we’re volunteering at through the school. There are four of us and we’re going as the Scooby Doo gang, I’m being Velma and we have a Shaggy, a Freddy, and a Daphne. Each of us totally fits the characters so it’ll be fun to be all dressed up together! Then after we go shopping we’ll probably go out to eat and then head to our school’s poetry slam. There’s a slam once a month and it’s seriously one of the coolest things about my school. People compete with their poems and their poems are so poignant and interesting and it brings a level of respect and understanding that usually wouldn’t be there. Maybe one day I’ll have the courage to write and preform a poem but for now I’m comfortable in the audience just listening!

First Day Of School

FASHIONKim & Chloe11 Comments

My last week of summer is officially coming to and end. I don’t know how the heck summer went by so fast; I seriously still feel like it’s June. But school is about to start and that means constant outfits that don’t just consist of exercise clothes. Also, I don’t know if you all know this, but I will be going back to real school which means I will be a new kid my senior year. This is the first year that I don’t have a uniform since 5th grade so I think my mornings will lead to very messy floors. Anyways, this is what I am planning on wearing my first day of school. I think it says “I want to look cute but not like I’m trying too hard.” Right? All I know for sure is that I like it so… ;)back to school outfit

Zumba

FASHIONKim & Chloe10 Comments

Hey there, it's Chloe. And I have a confession: I hate exercising. I always find myself staring at the clock, and realizing how time does actually slow down when I’m not having fun. But, I just discovered a type of exercise that I actually like. Zumba. I am a terrible dancer - you don’t want to be within three feet of my because I might break your arm or something - but when it comes to Zumba I find myself not caring what other people think about my moves. I just go with it. That might be because my Zumba class tends to fill up with women over the age of 40, but still... I thought Zumba would be like water aerobics minus the water, but I was way wrong. The fifteen other 40+ women and I were twerking and shimmying together. Well, attempting to twerk and shimmy. No joke. I wish I could’ve filmed me in this class, because I’m sure I looked absolutely ridiculous. But I had fun, and the hour passed in what felt like 15 minutes.

So if you’re not a fan of working out, but need to in order to be in a good mood you’re not alone. Zumba is something that you should definitely try out!

Hi, it's Kim and I'm the opposite of Chloe because I love to exercise! It's the best start of my day and I can't sleep unless I've been active. We decided to try Zumba because we kept hearing so many fun things about it, and Chloe was starting to dread (more than usual) going to work out. But, we had taken a dance class together a while ago, and it was a disaster. We could barely follow the steps and the teacher was intent on embarrassing us. We were ready to try again, so we prepared for the worst, while hoping for the best.

We headed in to Zumba and pegged our teacher as tiny but powerful cross between Sofia Vergara & Shakira. Yikes! This could be baaaad. But, things looked up as we looked around: we didn't fit the demographic, we were 20 - 40 years younger than everyone else. Hallelujah! Class would be slow, and we would be stars! We could definitely dance better than 60-70 year olds, right?

The music started... and I realized how wrong I was. How absolutely, incredibly wrong and age-ist I had been. These women could dance. Not only could they dance, but they. wore. jazz. shoes. They were serious dancers. They Zumba'd and shimmied with abandon and a carefree spirit. Chloe and I were in shock. While we tried to follow the steps the best we could, we weren't 1/2 the women these seniors are. We weren't 1/4 the dancers they are, and they could definitely shimmy better than us. Oh my gawd, this was embarrassing.

But we realized that nobody was shaming us, nobody was laughing, nobody was critiquing. They were calling out "good job" and "you're a fast learner!" We felt encouraged and started to follow their lead... and we actually started to... dance! And guess what? We let loose. Maybe not like the instructor. (Ok, definitely not like her!) Maybe not as well our fellow senior citizens. But we danced better than we had ever danced in a class before.

Zumba class reminded me how far a few words of praise could go. And how strong the bond of sisterhood can be when you start to doubt yourself, even when it's just something silly like a dance class. As we were guzzling our water after Zumba and mopping our faces, the jazz-shoed women sauntered over to ask our names and chit-chat. They welcomed us into their group, and said they hoped we'd be back. They made us feel... well, almost like we could shimmy.

How to wear a tweed jacket (& not look frumpy)

FASHIONKim & Chloe6 Comments
2013-04-04_11-59-45.jpeg

Record setting low temperatures will not give us a break, so putting away jean jackets and vests, camo coats, and sweaters hasn't happening yet. Layering with a ladylike tendency  adds a refreshing mix to the ordinary and a Chanel-esque tweed jacket as a topper is easy and adds a cropped & fitted silhoutte for both skinnies and boyfriend jeans. They even look fab with shorts and since they are available in linen and cotton, who says you have to put them away with your puffer jacket?  So channel Chanel, or find a nice print and take your basics up a notch. The Authentic Chanel Jacket is my obsession, along with a Kate Moss swagger:

Thank goodness these non-tweed or tweed jackets have a similar look for a lot less dent on the wallet. They instantly pull together jeans, even shorts, and a tshirt:

My favorite boyfriend (jeans)

FASHIONKim & Chloe1 Comment
boyfranjeansoutfit2-final.jpg

Ever since Katie Holmes rolled up her baggy jeans and the current boyfriend jeans trend was "born," this super-easy, relaxed style has had fashion staying power. And 2013 is a breakout year for the boyfriend jeans with every celeb sporting a pair to grab a latté or go shopping. Skinny jeans are still hot, but boyfriend jeans are a nice break in a week of super tight looks... and we love how we can mix our wardrobe and tailor our look on top while keeping things loose on the leg. But just because we can borrow from the boys, doesn't mean our "boyfriend jeans" need to look sloppy. They should be loose, but fitted across the waist and hips. They can either be straight and rolled to a taper, or cuffed to about an inch above the ankle. The thighs look best loose, and our favorite pairs taper in the leg, usually to a 12" to 14" opening.  Our biggest issue has been finding a pair with a rise that doesn't make us look like we are wearing a saggy pair of diapers, but maybe we just don't live up to our Kardashian namesakes.

Brands we like range from the Gap (we found some on sale for under $20) to J Brand, Current Elliott, Paige, Citizens of Humanity, J.Crew and more. Finding the perfect pair of boyfriend jeans just means looking around, shopping, and trying them. Not all that different from finding a good boyfriend.

How to Wear Boots

FASHIONKim & Chloe3 Comments

We are celebrating our new boots we received for the holidays, and are thrilled with ours! Chloe chose a gorgeous black pair and I got a tan pair... that way we can share when the mood hits... if the mood hits. Although tall boots look adorable with skirts, we seem to be wearing ours more with jeans and leggings. Maybe because of the cold weather. When spring hits, we are thinking tights, and skirts just above the knees, but for now, we've got a few ideas on how to wear boots that are easy and cute. Plus, we really love the look of shorts with tall boots, but for now, we are tucking our skinny jeans and leggings into boots.

6 Fall Boot Looks & how to style them

FASHIONKim & ChloeComment
c500x461.jpg

Crisp, cool weather is on the way, and we are getting our fall boots ready! Our booties have been in heavy rotation and now we're excited about our knee boots. As we transition our wardrobes from summer to fall, a few key pieces can help, and boots lead the way. We'll start out fall wearing them with bare legs and as the weather turns from cool to crisp to cold, we'll layer with tights to and taller boots to keep our legs toasty. We adore the look of booties with shorts and short skirts, but as the season goes on, we're happy to add our tall boots to the mix, and riding boots and knee boots with a taller front and shorter back are both huge trends for fall. We like them with with skinny jeans and skirts alike.  Just be sure to leave some leg showing when wearing with skirts!  Check out how to style your booties and tall boots to fit your look -- it's up to you whether to keep it classy, preppy and boho or beyond.  Whatever your pleasure.

They are totally acceptable in just about any circumstance – it’s just about how to wear colored jeans without looking like a color-blocked lego building. Cute Shorts to perk up your summer wardrobe

FASHIONKim & ChloeComment

Cute shorts are a must for spring and summer, and if we are lucky early fall. But finding cute shorts can be a hassle. What styles are "in"?  Do I want a print, solid, dressy or casual? So many options leave our heads spinning and our hands reaching for our trusty jean shorts. But switching up a summer look is important and we've found some great options that are tempting us to give it a go.  So we turned to Lisa from In Dramatic Fashion, popcosmo’s Fashion Contributor with the latest style tips and trends from NYC for updates on cute shorts for summer: This may come as a shock, but up until last summer I had been on a multiyear shorts hiatus. The summer staple can be incredibly tricky to shop for, and hadn’t been seen "in-fashion” for several years. I hated how they bunched, cut off my legs, and generally felt frumpy. Instead I opted for skirts and cuffed jeans (not great in humidity!) Thankfully, with their resurgence last year, you can now find plenty of comfortable, stylish, and versatile short options.

When it comes to shorts, comfort really is key for pulling them off with confidence. Ignore the tag and try buying short styles a size or two bigger than pants. I like them to hang on the hips, and have plenty of room around the leg (i.e. no digging in!)

Denim shorts have been a summer staple forever! Now with funky ikat, checks, and colored options they can even be dressed up for dinner or a date. But remember, shorts are about showing off your legs, not your derriere. Be sure to bend, squat, and sit to make sure everything stays covered. If you don’t love showing off your thighs, try tapered Bermuda shorts, or a tailored pair of mid thigh shorts. Each cut really highlights different parts of your body so try out different styles to find your ideal summer look. And don't be afraid to DIY (see the end of the article for lots of ideas) if you can't find your perfect pair.  Happy summer!

This pair from American Eagle, $29.99 is a bold pair to show off your legs. We love the Ikat print that comes in multiple color options.

J. Crew, $59.50, has some cute wide-leg shorts this season that are flattering on most body types and are comfortable for all!

We like this pair from Forever 21, $17.80 to dress up for going out.  The high waist helps camouflage a belly and the wider leg is comfortable and chic.

This embellished pair from Free People, $128, has a pattern to draw attention to the booty and the length is short, but not too short.
